Glazed The Doughnut Cafe

Glazed

the doughnut cafe

-------------------------------------------

Doughnuts, doughnuts, doughnuts…

If this is what you crave on a regular basis and are in the medical district area, you are in luck. We had been waiting to try this new 24-hour gourmet doughnut café and now we have!

Doughnuts have been on high demand since this café’s soft opening. The first day we stopped by they were sold out, but coming back a few times and getting the opportunity to try the doughnuts was well worth the wait.

We stopped by 9:00pm, and the doughnuts were super fresh. Probably we were lucky enough that this place was not packed as the last visits. Usually, it takes around 20 min to order, but this time, it was right away.

Normally, it is loud and packed because of its space. It is pretty small. However, It offers a few tables to sit and enjoy the doughnuts/coffee. Glazed works like any other regular doughnut place. You go to the counter to order, and wait for your doughnuts to be packed. Beside the usual wait, the customer service had always been  stupendous in Glazed. The employees had been kind, sympathetic and cordial.

If you are a doughnut lover, we suggest you to stop by Glazed (recommendation: to-go orders), and try one of their items from their menu. Do not forget your Juan Valdez coffee.

Doughnuts Reviews:

The doughnuts had a great consistency, and they were bigger than regular doughnuts. The dough of each of the doughnuts was spongy, fresh and tasteful. Even though they were not the best doughnuts we have tried, they were enjoyable and tasteful.

The Maple Bacon Doughnut and The Lemon Poppy Seed are ones of the most popular doughnuts here.

First, we had the Lemon Poppy Seed one which was delicious. It was sweet and tart at the same time. 5/5

Then, the Maple Bacon Doughnut which was huge and full of crispy pieces of bacon. The sweetness from the maple glazed and the saltiness of the bacon were perfectly balanced. 4.5/5

Third, the Glazed Doughnut which was simple and not too sweet. Perfect for a sweet craving.  5/5

Finally, The Toffee one which was too sweet. Having 2 bites of this one was enough. 3/5

Common Bond

Common Bond

cafe & bakery

-------------------------------------------

Nom-Nom is all that comes to our minds when we think about Common Bond.

This place has become pretty popular since they opened; come early or get ready to wait. The three times we have visited this cute cafe, the waits had been between 15-20 minutes each time, but at the end, they had been worthy. This time, once we walked in, we basically stood in line to order our pastries (which are beautifully displayed), then we paid at the counter and sat around the coffee bar which was in the middle of the bakery.

About the service and ambience, no comments!!! we totally loved the customer service and the great vibe at Common Bond. The natural sunlight coming through the windows, the variety of seating options, its pastel decor and its great music are one of the factors that help Common Bond to have a singular ambience. The service was amazing. We noticed how  friendly and attentive the staff was with all of the customers. They were paying attention to every single detail.

If you have not visited this adorable bakery, we suggest you to add it to your list. We have not tried any savory dish at Common Bond, but next time we will. Hopefully, they are as good as their pastries.

Chocolate Chip Cookie

-------------------------------------------

One of the best chocolate chip we have had in Houston. It was soft, chunky and delicious. With full of chocolate chunks, this cookie was explosive in its chocolate content.

They also have triple chocolate cookies which are beyond amazing. This time, they were out of those ones, but if you are lucky enough when you visit common bond, we highly recommend you to order both cookies.

Lemon Tart

-------------------------------------------

A deliciously creamy mix of kust enough sweetness and just enough citrus, layered over a thin lemon cake, and encased in crispy crust.

The crust was rather superfluous to the otherwise perfectly balanced flavours and textures of the tart.

Passionfruit & Salted Caramel Macarons

Great consistency! Rusty on the outside but fudgy  on the inside. Just how it ahould be.

Cloud 10 Creamery

Cloud 10

creamery

-------------------------------------------

Clean, simple, and peaceful were the 3 words that crossed our minds when we walked in. With terrific music and great customer service, this modern little Ice Cream Shop located in the heart of Rice Village offers original and seasonal flavors, but if you are looking for something different or for a specific flavor, you can request it and Chef Chris Leung will please you and make your dreams come true.

At the time we visited it, this shop was not packed at all, but this place usually gets busy every evening, specially during the weekends. If you would like to sit down to enjoy your scoops, let us tell you that the space is limited inside the store. However, they have a patio where they offer more tables for their customers.

Overall this place was pleasant, we were not incredible impressed, but we would probably go back again to try other flavors since they change seasonally.

Adult Milkshake

st. germain ice cream

-------------------------------------------

As soon as we read Adult Milkshake, we said Yes! but unfortunately, it was not what we expected.

Not enough of the elderflower liquor to make it interesting and memorable, and not enough of anything else to make this milkshake anything more than a glorified creamy version of grocery store milk one might buy by the gallon.

The shake lacked the airiness that would at least make it palatable, and instead felt heavy and flat. Too heavy for a shake to be drank with straws, too light for ice cream to be eaten with a spoon.

This one definitely did not have us flying high.

Vanilla Bean Sundae

vanilla bean IC, mango, toasted meringue, brown sugar crumble, white chocolate magic shell

-------------------------------------------

The Presentation of the sunday was amazing, as you can see in the picture. The ice cream was creamy as it should be. A reminiscence of the cloud, if only one wouldn't fall off at the anticlimactic taste.

Since  it is an ice cream shop, the natural vanilla flavor could be better, but it was well complemented with the mango, toasted meringue, white chocolate and the lovely brown sugar crumble at the bottom of the cup! All these components worked very well together.
