Bistro Menil

Bistro Menil

-------------------------------------------

White and glass walls! It is what comes to our minds after visiting Menil Collection’s new restaurant, Bistro Menil.

When we walked in through the glass door, we immediately saw its attractive wood bar designed which has approximately 6 sits. Then, when we turned to the right, we noticed its little main dining room which called our attention because we never imagined it to be that small. It is literally a bistro.

The main dining room had no decoration at all. While some of us relate white to peace and innocence, others see it as the ultimate depiction of chic. Unfortunately, we felt like having dinner in the middle of an empty gallery-room. It had only tables, white walls and a lovely iron lamp in the middle of the roof. In general, the ambience was bizarre. It provided us two different sensations at the same time. It gave us a peaceful/relax vibe, but also because this place was pretty loud (the entire night) it gave us a lively vibe.

The service was a little bit more than average. Since it is a new restaurant, the general manager or/and the chef should visit the main dining room sporadically to make sure their new customers are happy and satisfied with the food/service. Some guests (including us) would see Chef Martin when he welcomed the them at the door. About our server, he was polite, detail oriented and kind, but whenever we had a question about the menu, he would get stuck or insecure to answer them.

The new European-inspired restaurant is located in the Montrose area. If you are in the area, we suggest you to stop by. Since it has glass walls everywhere, we would love to visit Bistro Menil for brunch to enjoy a sunny Sunday while eating.

Warm Brie

complemented with fig preserves

-------------------------------------------

It is impossible to mess up this simple appetizer, and they did not.

The softness texture and the savory flavor of the brie coordinated well with the sweet topping made of figs. It was easy and delicious to share.

Flatbread

parmesan, fig and jamon

-------------------------------------------

We decided to order a flat bread as one of the starters, and its size was pretty large for us; adequate to share and to start the night.

We knew that we could not go wrong with fig and jamon, and we did not. The taste of this flat bread was stupendous. The sweetness of the figs worked very well with the salty savor provided by the jamon. Sadly, the bread itself was not crispy at all. The dough was hard and chewy.

We recommend you this flat bread because of its delicious taste, but just let them know how crispy you would like your crust.

Roasted Salmon

with horseradish dill sauce

menil salad and warm quinoa with roasted vegetables

-------------------------------------------

With a delicate presentation, this entrée bought.

The salmon came out with its crispy golden brown crust. The salmon was not greasy, tender and it was perfectly cooked. The only thing we did not appreciate from the salmon was its size. It was not even 3 ounces of salmon.  As you can see in the picture, the portion of the size-dishes were bigger than the salmon itself.

The quinoa was fluffy, tasty and well cooked with the vegetables. The salad was fresh and lightly dressed. Just perfect!

Crisp Duck Confit

with pink peppercorn butter

petit baked potato with crème fraiche and cold zucchini with parmesan and pancetta

-------------------------------------------

Transforming the duck into something spectacular, it was what chef Martin did here! .

We entirely loved the well-browned crispy skin and the unctuous flavorful meat. The duck itself was soft and rich at the same time.

The baked potato was soft and the sour touch of the crème fraiche was magic. The zucchini was perfectly a refreshing selection to enjoy the richness of the duck.

Entrecote

(10 oz ribeye) with green peppercorn sauce

quinoa with roasted vegetables and bistro potatoes

-------------------------------------------

The ribeye impressed us!

This beautiful steak had a smooth/tender texture and a distinctive flavor because of its fat and the peppercorn sauce. The sauce was tasty, creamy and particularly good for the steak.

Le Brownie À La Mode

-------------------------------------------

It was exactly what we needed after our meals. The size of the brownie is large enough to be share with four of us.

To our taste buds, it had an enjoyable strong chocolate flavor. However, what we loved the most from this dessert was the mix of textures inside it. This brownie had bunch of little chocolate chunks, and melted chocolate pieces at the same time.
