Giacomo's cibo & vino

Giacomo's

cibo e vino

-------------------------------------------

With a turquoise deco and a dark brown accents, there is Giacomo’s located in the Upper Kirby District to offer a fast casual Italian concept.

As soon as we walked in, we noticed how this restaurant was clearly divided. On the left side, we saw the main dining room which had a few tables but spacious. On the right side, we found the bar area which was smaller than the main dining room, and the patio which we totally loved.

The ambience on each of the areas was enjoyable, relax and casual. The restaurant has a glass wall that goes from the main dining room to the bar which gives a natural clarity and harmony to the restaurant. Many times, it could get a little loud in the bar area because as we said, it was not that big at all. The mix of its clienteles fascinated us. During lunch, there was an international mix of people having lunch at Giacomo’s that ranged from 20s to 50s.

The service did not impress us. First of all, the food came out a little bit late, and the service overall was slow. Even though our waiter was polite and knowledgeable, he was not amicable, and he would disappear oftentimes, so whenever he appeared he would rush on our orders. Also, something that we found kind of tedious was their menu. It was too detailed and too long (small font size) that we felt like reading and essay.

Even though the service did not bought us, we still enjoyed the vibe from Giacomo’s. We will give them a second chance, and definitely come back for their pasta.

Bruschetta con porchetta e scamorza

grilled bread with roast Berkshire pork, fennel confit, smoked mozarrella

-------------------------------------------

This appetizer had tons of flavors, and the pork was stupendous, but we did not expect its size portion to be that little.

When we ordered the bruschetta we expected this appetizer to be more than only one piece of bread with mozzarella and pork.

Overall, it was not worthy for its price. Next time we will go for a different option.

Spaghetti Alla Carbonara

extra virgin olive oil, crispy guanciale (cured pork jowl), pecorino romano, free range egg, black pepper.

-------------------------------------------

The pasta was freshly made and cooked very well. Enough firmness and cream for “alla carbonara” and we could easily tasted and found each of the ingredients in each bite.

The only reason we do not give them full 5 moons is because of the portion of the dish. The portion of this was not large enough. It called our attention as soon as the pasta was brought to the table.

Pollo Giotto

Marinated bone-in/skin-on chicken breast pan roasted with butter & sage

-------------------------------------------

Not much to say about a simple chicken breast.

The fragrance of the sage usually add character to meats, but it was not noticed on the pollo giotto at all. In other words, it had no special flavor.

It was very hot to eat at the moment. We had to wait a few minutes to enjoy the chicken.

Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese

traditional “bologna style” savory meat sauce

-------------------------------------------

Great dish. Pastas are definitely their strength.

Its fresh pasta, and the fantastic balance of flavors were the main characteristics of this dish. It gave us a homemade feeling when we were eating it.

The portion of the tagliatelle alla Bolognese was pretty fulfill.

Panna Cotta Al Yogurt

Cream & yogurt gelatin pudding infused with vanilla, cinnamon, lemon zest

-------------------------------------------

With a curios flavor and consistency, this was not what we expected as panna cotta.

This panna cotta was not creamy enough, and the after taste was sort of a menthol flavor. We did not expected it to be like this, but we did not dislike it.
